Tickr
Honest comparison

Tickr vs Pingdom: a fair comparison

Pingdom (now part of SolarWinds) is the legacy enterprise uptime brand. Tickr is a modern developer-focused alternative without enterprise pricing.

TL;DR
  • · Pingdom has been around since 2005. Strong brand, enterprise procurement track record, deep integration ecosystem.
  • · Tickr is a leaner, modern take: API-first config, JSON assertions, lower price.
  • · If you have an enterprise contract requirement, Pingdom checks the box. If you're a startup or dev team, Tickr's price+UX combination is easier.

When you should pick which

Pick Pingdom if…
  • · You need real-user monitoring (RUM) for end-user perceived performance, not just synthetic checks.
  • · Your procurement requires SOC 2, contracts, MSA, vendor security review — Pingdom checks those.
  • · You're recording multi-step transactions (login → cart → checkout) and need transaction-level monitoring.
Pick Tickr if…
  • · You only need synthetic API and page checks, not RUM.
  • · You're a startup or dev team where Pingdom's enterprise pricing doesn't fit.
  • · You want JSON assertions and developer-friendly API config without procurement friction.

Pricing math

Pingdom Starter: Around $15/mo for ~10 checks. Mid tiers $50–$150/mo.

Tickr paid: Lower entry price, scales flatter.

Pingdom enterprise: Custom pricing, often $500+/mo with RUM bundled. Tickr doesn't compete in this segment.

FAQ

Does Tickr do RUM (real-user monitoring)?

No. RUM requires a JS SDK and traffic analysis pipeline; we don't ship that. Tickr is synthetic checks only.

Will my Pingdom monitors import?

Yes. Export from Pingdom API, import to Tickr via our migration script.

Can I do multi-step transaction recording?

Basic chained API checks (call A, use result in call B) yes. Browser-based transaction recording (record clicks through a UI) — no, that's Pingdom's territory.

What if procurement requires SOC 2?

We don't have SOC 2 yet. If procurement requires it, Pingdom (or BetterStack at the higher tier) is the right answer.
